Updated October 20, 2026. wxdeck is built on public weather data and openly licensed maps. This page names every source, the licence it is used under, and the credit it asks for.

wxdeck is not an official source of weather warnings, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA or the National Weather Service.

Naming a source here is attribution, not a claim that the source endorses wxdeck. Where wxdeck changes data — reprojecting, recolouring, blending or contouring it — the result is ours and is not original, unaltered agency data. See the Weather Data Disclaimer.

NOAA and the National Weather Service

NOAA/NSSL Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor (MRMS), via the NOAA Open Data Dissemination program

Used for: Live radar reflectivity, precipitation type, rotation tracks and lightning probability.
Licence: Public domain (a work of the US government, 17 U.S.C. §105). NODD: “NOAA data disseminated through NODD are open to the public and can be used as desired.”

NOAA High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR), via the NOAA Open Data Dissemination program

Used for: Forecast radar frames, wind particles and wind at altitude, temperature, dew point, pressure and freezing-level overlays and their contour lines.
Licence: Public domain (a work of the US government, 17 U.S.C. §105). Same NODD terms as MRMS.
Credit: Derived from NOAA HRRR. Modified by wxdeck (decoded, reprojected, contoured and recoloured); not original, unaltered NOAA data.

NOAA/NWS National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) National Snowfall Analysis

Used for: Observed snowfall over the last 24, 48 and 72 hours.

NOAA Global Forecast System (GFS) and National Blend of Models (NBM)

Used for: Two of the forecast models in the multi-model forecast and snow views.

Note: Reached today through Open-Meteo (below), not directly from NODD. The HRRR forecast line comes the same way.

National Weather Service API (api.weather.gov)

Used for: Watches, warnings and advisories; forecast text; station observations.
Licence: Public domain (a work of the US government, 17 U.S.C. §105). “All of the information presented via the API is intended to be open data, free to use for any purpose.”

Used for: Tropical cyclone forecast cones, tracks, and watches and warnings.
