How wxdeck compares
wxdeck is a weather map for the United States. It does fewer things than a global weather map, and does them in more depth.
A radar and forecast map
- Live radar from NOAA. The MRMS radar mosaic, about every two minutes, with rain and snow drawn in different colors, and the forecast hours on the same timeline.
- National Weather Service warnings drawn where they are in effect.
Forecast models compared
- Seven models on one chart. NBM, HRRR and GFS from NOAA, IFS and AIFS from ECMWF, ICON and GEM. Each day shows how far they disagree, so a wide range reads as a less certain forecast.
- Accuracy you can check. Forecasts are scored against what weather stations observed.
Ski resort snow forecasts
499 US ski areas, each with observed snow beside the forecast at the base, mid-mountain and summit, the snow level against the lifts, snowmaking hours and the best day of the week.
Where a global map is the better choice
wxdeck's radar and weather layers cover the lower 48 states. For weather elsewhere in the world, a global service covers far more.
Try it
Resort pages are open to everyone, with the next three days: Vail, Alta, Mt. Baker, and the ranking of every resort. So is the live radar, with no sign-in. The rest of the app is free for beta testers; plans come later.
